We have a requirement for kitting/configuring hose products, where we need a kit builder online to allow customers to choose their hose type, hose diameter and length (these are standard items), then choose the 2 ends of the hose they want (each end would be an assembly item made up from various components).
We'd need to set min and max hose lengths as part of this, and the system would then multiply our per m hose price of these standard items by the length chosen (+ a small nominal extra length for wastage) to work out the cost of the hose.
We'd build the ends in our B.C system as assembly items, with unique prices and with Labour and other charges built into those (so the website wouldn't need to worry about them).
We'd like to show images of the hose and the ends to the customer as they are making their choices, to allow them to visualise what they would be getting.
Once the customer has chosen the hose length and the 2x end types, the website would calc the total price and show this to the customer.
We'd want the three items (Hose, end 1 and end 2) to be added to the users cart and sent through to B.C (Rather than having the configurator create a SKU for the complete item). This is due to the fact that hoses can be any one of 8 x diameters/styles, each made to any length between 1m and 40m and the no. of ends for each hose style being around 6, so the no. of possible combinations would be around 11,520, and we wouldn't want to have to build all of those in our BC system.
Kit Builder is already on our roadmap https://gob2b.ideas.aha.io/ideas/ENG-I-25 and I have merged this idea into that one. It is the highest voted 'Big' - In terms of development work idea. We have already done some design work and will be progressing it in the next 12 months. We had hoped to have it done by this autumn but the amount of 'Payment' related work we have had to do post acquisition postponed it.
I cant say when, as it was a while ago, nor who for (GDPR), but GoB2B have looked at something like this before for me for a previous company. The leg work has been done... but nothing was ever done. (I doubt they will do it if I am being honest). it was based, but not copied, on this sort of thing: https://auto.helperformance.com/custom-an6-rubber-braided-fuel-oil-coolant-hose-lines
