At present on any given product page you can see the product in question and all data relating to it.
You can also see 'Alternative' or 'Cross Sell' products in a fair large format underneath.
I propose having the option to add in related / useful / essential products on the same page.
For us this is when selling wheels people can buy the nuts / bolts etc to fit them.
For somebody selling metal racking you might want to offer the bolts, clips and feet.
These are not alternative products but very related and relevant. Having them available on a dropdown with the title, a tiny thumbnail and price on there would be ideal so many products can be see as apposed to the current option to just show a few in large size which limits what people can see.
This would then also allow the cross sell / alternative to be in place still, so you can point people at alternatives which would in themselves likely also need to show related options.
