Problem:
Currently, when managing product listings, cross-sell and alternative product links must be added individually for each product. While this is a powerful tool, it becomes extremely time-consuming and difficult to maintain at scale — especially when managing large catalogues or responding to product changes such as discontinued lines.
For example, if I want to upsell a popular accessory across 50+ products, I have to manually add that item to each listing. If the accessory is later discontinued or replaced, I must then go back into every individual listing to remove or replace it.
Proposed Solution:
Introduce a feature that allows users to create Product Recommendation Groups (e.g. “Upsell Group: Trailer Board Accessories” or “Alternative Group: Budget LED Markers”) that can be applied to multiple product listings.
Each group would contain a set of associated products. When applied to a product listing, that group’s contents would be shown as cross-sell or alternative products. If a product in the group is discontinued or replaced, users could update the group in one place and the change would reflect across every listing using it.
Additionally, users should be able to assign groups to entire categories, allowing for more automated and scalable upsell strategies — for example, ensuring that every listing in a “Work Lamps” category includes the same suggested accessories or alternatives by default.
Benefits:
Significant time savings in adding/removing upsell or alternative product links
Easier catalogue maintenance and updates
Reduces the risk of outdated or discontinued items being promoted
Enables strategic upselling across product ranges more efficiently
Supports category-wide promotions or accessory recommendations
Nice to Have (Future Enhancements):
Group-level analytics to assess performance of upsells/alternatives
Tag or filter-based dynamic groups (e.g. "Show all LED work lamps under £30")
It's been a month, I will assume this is not going to be implimented. Do you know when the Alternatives will be fixed?
Thank you for this very well considered idea.
